I had never been before, but it has been on my, "to do," list for a while. Carter loves any and all things animals, so it's kinda hard to believe we haven't been before. Oh well...
It was a fun morning switching out car seats, packing up all three kids, jackets (the morning was chilly), the wagon (with umbrella), stroller, mini-cooler full of water and snacks, all 3 diapers bags, extra clothes, purses, cameras, etc, etc...into the car. It wasn't terrible, but it just made me realize how much, "stuff," we depend on to do something as simple as go to the zoo for a few hours. Phew!
So, we have a great ride downtown, not alot of traffic, but even arriving shortly after opening, we were parked in a back lot.
The zoo was nice, the weather was wonderful, many of the animals were out feeding and most importantly, the kids had a good time.
It always warms my heart to see Carter interact with other children and to hear the sweet conversations they have with each other. It was, again, heartwarming to see Carter and Makenzie have this special day together.
While we were at the zoo, I heard a helicopter overheard. I made note and said to Stephanie, "Well, they are either looking for someone or there is a wreck."
I was wrong on both counts. More to come...
We decided to leave after about 4 hours. Both Carter and Makenzie were getting testy and the park was quickly becoming hard to move around in. It seemed kids were everywhere!
When we pulled out of the zoo, the traffic was backed up all the way on the other side of 35! It was crazy. There were cops directing traffic on the feeder roads!
I learned later, by watching the 5pm news, that the helicopter we heard was a news chopper! Apparently the zoo was the place to be yesterday! The Ft. Worth Zoo got all the coverage though, breaking record numbers they backed up traffic on their side of town, too! Crazy!
It seems with the economy the way it is, families are choosing the stay home this spring break and see the sights around their hometowns. As a friend said today- a staycation!
Yesterday was most definitely staycation zoo day!
